Instagram Shopping gives businesses the opportunity to showcase their products directly in posts. Users can, with just a click on a tagged product, get more info like the name, price, or a description and go straight to buying – without leaving Instagram.
This makes it easier than ever to offer products right where potential buyers are hanging out: in the social feed. For brands and retailers, it's an effective way to shorten the buying process and boost conversion rates.
RequirementsTo use Instagram Shopping, a few requirements need to be met. Meta ensures this to make sure there's a smooth connection between the product catalog, Instagram account, and the commerce environment.
Instagram Business or Creator account
Linked Facebook Page
Approved product catalog in Facebook Commerce Manager
Instagram Shopping available in the respective region
Tagging limitationsInstagram lets you tag products in posts—but only up to a certain limit. These limits vary depending on the post type:
Single photo or video posts
Max 20 products per post
Carousel posts
Max 20 products per carousel in total
Also max 5 products per image or video within the carousel
Examples:
Carousel with 3 images → max 15 products (5 per image)
Carousel with 6 images → in theory 30 products possible, but due to the total limit only 20 allowed
Extra notesBesides the technical requirements and limits, there are also some practical tips you should keep in mind when using Instagram Shopping:
Product tags are only possible in feed posts
Product names and prices come from the linked product catalog – changes can only be made in the Facebook Commerce Manager
Each tag can only be used once per post
Frequently Asked QuestionsYes, products can be added directly in the Lomavis Creator when creating a post in profile groups
An Instagram shop is always directly linked to an Instagram account. If you create a post in a profile group, the store of the linked Instagram account is used for product tags. For multiposts, you create one post for several Instagram accounts at the same time. Tagging products isn't possible here because tags have to be set individually for each Instagram account.
